If you are looking for a quick and easy treat our fall snack mix with caramel popcorn will fit the bill! It makes a perfect hostess gift for Thanksgiving and a take home treat. Our fall snack mix also ships well, so you can send it to family from away to let them know you are thinking of them! The nice thing with snack mixes is you can change up the flavors to include some of your favorite things.
Last Christmas I decided to make a snack mix I could prepare and package up so I would have little gifts for family during the holiday season. I knew I needed to have something that would last a couple weeks so I decided to forgo baking something from scratch and put together a yummy snack mix with some of my favorite snacks and chocolates. To this day I still get asked about that snack mix and when I will be making it again! Living away from family means I miss many holidays. To them let them know I am thinking of them I like to send a little sweet something in the mail. A snack mix is easy to put together, package up creatively and ships well too! This year I decided it would be nice to surprise a lucky few with a fall snack mix filled with some different items than what they tried last year. This round I am adding caramel popcorn!
Speaking of snack mixes…don’t you love a good one? My Grandma used to make us Chex mix for Halloween when we were little. I liked the variety of flavors and different kinds of goodies that all came together in one scrumptious little bag. I kept that in mind as I picked out the items for my fall snack mix. I wanted a nice balance of sweet and some not so sweet. For a good snack mix there is no “rule” but I would suggest at least 5 different kinds of items with different levels of sweetness for it to be balanced and fun. For our fall snack mix I decided the magic number was 9 different items! I picked out caramel popcorn (if you haven’t tried the new Whether’s Caramel Popcorn you should, it is so good!), milk chocolate covered almonds, dark chocolate covered cranberries, sesame sticks, butter toffee pecans, butterscotch chips, mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups, chocolate covered sunflower seeds and mini oat bran pretzel nuggets that I drizzled in white chocolate and added fall sprinkles.
Depending on your event you can packaged up your fall snack mix in a couple different ways. For an elegant presentation we used a brown tart pan with gold accents to hold some of the mix. To make it easy to gift you can slip it into a clear cellophane bag, close with a twist tie and add a pretty topper to the bag. We used Forever Your Prints fall cupcake toppers and punched out the designs using a 2.5” scallop edge paper punch. Add a glue dot to the bag of the topper and stick it on the front of your bag. It added the perfect finishing touch to the packaging. If you are looking for another easy treat to make that would go well with the snack mix check our out tutorial on how to make loaded caramel chocolate pretzels.
For packaging that is a little more casual and fun try packing your fall snack mix in paper ice cream cups with domed lids. They are great for adding a pop of color but still letting you to see all the sweet goodness inside. Top with a fall topper with a glue dot on the back to complete the presentation. There you have a perfect quick and easy take away favor for Thanksgiving, to give to family, friends and co-workers or to whomever you find you are grateful for this time of year! Try mixing up the favors in your fall snack mix with some of your favorite items! I bet you will get requests to make it again! I already have my Christmas snack mix planned out!
